Position Summary

Supports simulation education activities and sessions that take place at the Clinical Skills Center. This includes the recruitment, training and supervision of standardized patients (SP) as well as coordination, monitoring and evaluation of standardized patient, simulator and clinical skills sessions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assesses suitability of SPs and assigns cases. Conducts training and debriefing sessions, identifies problems with SP performance and provides intervention or remedial training as necessary.
  • Assists with the planning and coordination of all simulation sessions taking place in the Center. Assists with schedule development.
  • Coordinates the recruitment & training of standardized patients. Develops, promulgates & maintains promotional materials for the recruitment of SPs. Manages the application process & screening of candidates. Designs & conducts SP program orientation.
  • Develops & conducts quality assurance measures related to SP training and performance. Assesses and provides feedback to SPs in relation to training interactions. Maintains appropriate training logs and assesses the need for retraining or removal of an SP.
  • Develops and maintains SP materials including training protocols, instructional materials for students, faculty and staff, training logs and SP database. Assists in developing SP checklists, encounter evaluations and cases.
  • Maintains employment and HR-related needs for standardized patients; approves all work times for standardized patients through the Winston Staffing portal.
  • Monitors and assesses SP performance and feedback during clinical assessments. Participates in the collection and analyses of SP and student performance data. Writes and discusses regular evaluations of SPs.
  • Trains SPs in aspects of case portrayal, checklist item recognition, giving feedback, documentation standards, case materials, interface with CSC software, and CSC policies and procedures.
  • Works with staff to ensure all materials for simulation sessions are stocked appropriately.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field

Experience

Master's degree is preferred.

Approximately 3 years of related experience in administrative work, in medical education working with faculty and curriculum, training and/or teaching, and/or SP training and/or simulation training or work experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience working with multi-cultural students, patients and/or faculty, and in staff recruitment, training and supervision is highly desired.
