Position Summary

The position supports the day-to-day operations of the library, including circulation services, interlibrary loan services, citation verification, and collection maintenance, and assists patrons in using library resources.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides basic reference support and assists with citation verification services.
  • Assists with interlibrary loan (ILL), document delivery (DD) services, processing the requests in a timely manner.
  • Creates drafts of WCM-Q faculty publication lists, updates and maintains reports, and contributes towards enhancing the services provided.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the student assistant working in the reading room, guiding effective customer service and technical support skills and ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Assists with the circulation services and course reserves, maintains patron records, and follows up on overdue and fine notices. 
  • Maintains the reading room, follows up on requests, and assists in managing the booking systems for equipment, space, and services.
  • Generate and analyze reports on library usage, including tracking resource usage, equipment bookings, and patron access logs for reporting purposes to the college.
  • Undertakes scheduling of library staff to provide reference and circulation services in online and in-person settings.
  • Provide support to faculty and students in locating, using, and checking out resources and ensure smooth circulation processes both online and in person when using resources/equipment.
  • Assist in the digitization of materials as required and provide backup support for resource-sharing software.
  • Coordinate and assist in delivering library workshops, orientations, and events that help patrons make the most of library services.
  • Provides administrative support in maintaining timesheets, tracking leave, and recording dues and payments.
  • Perform regular inventory and shelf-reading of physical collections to ensure items are properly organized and available for checkout.
  • Collaborate in creating library training materials, including FAQs, instructional videos, and library guides.
  • Provides coverage of the information desk after-hours, and at rostered times during work hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Experience

Bachelor's Degree in library sciences or related field with 2 – 5 years of relevant experience.

Prior library experience in an academic setup is an advantage.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of cataloging standards such as Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR2), Resource Description and Access (RDA), Library of Congress, and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH).
  • Knowledge of indexing, filing, and cross-referencing methods with proficiency in Integrated Library System (ILS) software.
  • Customer-focused with the ability to work in a diverse culture.
  • Attention to detail with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in demanding timeframes.
  • Familiarity with citation management software.
  • Proficient in English and Arabic (preferable).
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite of products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

    Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar was established in 2001 as a partnership between Cornell University and Qatar Foundation (QF).
