Position Summary

The position is responsible for academic advising, career counseling and supporting academic success and professional development of all students.

Job Responsibilities

  • Identify, counsel and monitor progress of students having academic difficulty or concerns.
  • Provide individualized counseling to students as relevant to their academic studies.
  • Analyse students problems and refer them for EAP counseling services as appropriate.
  • Develop, coordinate and oversee tutoring services for Pre-Medical and Medical students.
  • Advise students on leave of absence procedures, monitor their status during leave period and facilitate their return to active enrollment.
  • Design and deliver presentations and workshops on techniques for academic success for the student community.
  • Drafts letters of recommendations for students applying for electives, research opportunities, scholarships and awards.
  • Assist students in course selection, including cross-registration opportunities with partner institutions.
  • Support students with registration for major standardized exams (i.e. MCAT, USMLE Step 1, Step 2CK, and Step 2CS).
  • Serve as a member of the Academic Advising Committee.
  • Participate in Promotion and Graduation Committee meetings providing relevant student performance information to committee members. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in education, sociology or related discipline with 5 – 6 years of relevant experience in working in an academic environment advising and counselling students.

Master’s Degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong academic counseling and mentoring skills.
  • Understanding of academic advising practices and student support framework.
  • Ability to research and familiarize with education pathways and requirements.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Well-versed in written and oral communication in English and Arabic (desirable).
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite of products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

 

 

 

 

 

Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar was established in 2001 as a partnership between Cornell University and Qatar Foundation (QF). The first medical school in Qatar and a pioneer of coeducation at the university level, WCM-Q offers an integrated Six-Year Medical Program that incorporates pre-medical and medical studies and leads to the Cornell University M.D. degree.
